I’m so excited for today’s short and sweet interview. I asked Suzy, of Sailor Suzy Designs on Etsy, to answer some questions for a blog post. I found Suzy when I was searching for a logo designer for my blog. Her designs called out to me, and I knew I had to purchase the entire design package. She was very helpful, sweet, and creative, but, most of all, she was able to bring my crazy ideas to life!
I absolutely love her simple, yet stunning designs and gorgeous use of color. I won’t delay the interview any longer, take it away, Suzy!
- How did you get started?
I actually started designing posters and flyers in Microsoft Publisher (ahhhhh) for businesses, churches, and schools in my community as I was graduating high school. When designing these, it honestly gave me the happiest feeling in the world therefore wanted to do more and go further! I went to school at the Art Institute of Sacramento, CA and received my degree in graphic design.
-Describe your style.
Honestly, I have several different styles. Maybe depending on my mood or what’s “in” at the time. But I guess if I had to pick…I love creating simple, clean designs with character and those fun “ah ha” moments.
-What inspires you?
Where to begin… I will seriously take my sketch book with me and as my husband is driving us to different locations, I will sketch logos and designs from the smallest things.. a mailbox, a broken fence, a windmill….. Once I see something that sparks interest in me, the creativity is automatically flowing from my pencil. Other designers inspire me as well. Most people don’t like to admit that, but they are lying if they say they never gather inspiration from other people’s creativity That’s the design world!
-What is your favorite pastime?
I love to read historical fiction, play with my two Persian kitties, and I Crossfit 5 days a week.
-Who is your ideal client?
My ideal client is someone who is just as, if not more excited to begin the design process than I am. It makes for such a great and easy experience.
-Coffee or tea?
Coffee in the morning, Iced Green Tea (sugar free of course) in the afternoon – woot woot!
P.S., Suzy has graciously agreed to give readers 10% off their order if they mention Hapa Mom!
